Two-Week Kamchatka Odyssey - Zhupanova River

Book a week-long flyfishing adventure on the Zhupanova River at the standard rate of $5950, and receive a discount of $1550 on any additional week(s).

The most exciting flyfishing trip in the world may well be a combination of the Upper Zhupanova River Float Trip and a second week stay at Zenzur Lodge, on the lower Zhupanova.

The Zhupanova River is the flagship river of Kamchatka that put the region on the map in the early 90's. Today is is among the most famous rivers in the world among trophy trout hunters. It is home to a strain of exceptionally large native rainbow trout, sea-run kunzha char, brown bears, Steller sea eagles, and a prehistoric, other-worldly natural beauty. This two-week odyssey of wilderness travel and flyfishing excellence covers 75 river miles that are fished by fewer than 50 people each year.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1, WED: Depart USA on overnight flight to Moscow.
Day 2, THU: Depart Moscow on overnight flight to Kamchatka.
Day 3, FRI: Arrive Petropavlovsk-Kamchatka, transfer by helicopter to Zhupanova Float Trip put-in. Afternoon fishing.
Day 4-9: Six full fishing days.
Day 10, SAT: Transfer by jet boat from float trip take-out to Zenzur Lodge. Full day fishing.
Day 11-16: Six full fishing days.
Day 17, FRI: Morning fishing, afternoon transfer by helicopter to Petropavlovsk. Overnight.
Day 18, SAT: Depart Kamchatka, arrive Moscow, overnight.
Day 19, SUN: Depart Moscow, arrive home.

• 13 full days of guided fishing.

Inclusions
Full pre-trip and logistical support from The Fly Shop, all ground, helicopter and boat transportation in Kamchatka, guided fishing, accommodation and food.

Explorations In Patagonia

Be among the first...

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for a handful of intrepid anglers to explore some of Patagonia’s last un-fished waters. Patagonian BaseCamp/Lodge is conducting four exploratory expeditions for the 2010 season. Each trip is limited to four anglers maximum.

Participants Prerequisites:
•  Participants should be in good physical condition and comfortable living and functioning in a remote wilderness setting
•  Participants should be able to assist with everyday tasks of a wilderness trip
•  Strong outdoor and camping skills are necessary
•  Whitewater rafting experience is a plus, but not necessary
•  This is a trip for adventurous fly fishers with strong angling skills. This expedition is an attempt to find and rate new fisheries, as well as re-access fisheries that were recently discovered.

The expeditions will be outfitted and sponsored by Patagonian BaseCamp, a leader in high-service-level fly fishing trips in the Aisen province of Chile. Each trip will be led by highly qualified guides and feature the most state of the art equipment available for wilderness travel and exploration.

Price:  $3,950 per angler/adventurer
Trips are one week in duration, Friday – Friday and start and end in Puerto Montt, Chile.

Inclusions:
Meet-and-Greet at Puerto Montt Airport and transfer to charter flight airport, charter flight from Puerto Montt to Palena or La Junta and onto Patagonian BaseCamp and TempleCamp Breakfast, lunch and dinner and all drinks consumed (so called "open bar policy"). In case of special drink preferences, we recommend you to bring libations of your own taste, because they might not be available in Chile. All guided expeditions, by horseback, boat, raft, kayak, 4x4 vehicle, etc. All necessary fishing licenses. 60 pound maximum luggage restriction.

Non-inclusions:
Other non-inclusions are possible extra lodging, transfer, travel expenses or trip modifications as result of a delay, either planned or requested by the guest or as a result of an act of God. Fishing equipment like waders, rods, lines, flies etc. and discretionary gratuities.

Proposed Itinerary:
Thursday:  Arrive Puerto Mont and overnight.
Friday:  Flight from Puerto Montt to Chaiten – transfer to BaseCamp 1^st night at Lodge.
Saturday:  Fishing day and transfer to TempleCamp.
Sunday - Wednesday:  Fishing and exploration from TempleCamp.
Thursday:  Last fishing day, transfer to Lodge for accommodations and farewell feast.
Friday:  Transfer to Chaiten for flight to Puerto Montt.

The fishing this year (2009) has been outstanding, especially for baby tarpon and later in the season, snook fishing. On a recent trip (September 2 – 9, 2009) by our saltwater fly fishing expert (Bill Marts), the top-water action for baby tarpon was unbelievably good. On the calmer days, the fishing is very good at the Sian Ka’an’s Bahia de Espiritu Santo as well as in Chetumal Bay to the south for bonefish and permit. For the non-angler, there is snorkeling, birding, Mayan ruin tours and city tours of nearby Majahual and Chetumal.
