Whipray Caye Lodge
Bonefish, permit, snook and tarpon off the Belize coast!
Whipray Caye is a very small private
island located about 10 miles off the coast of Placencia,
Belize, Central America.
Owned and operated by Julian Cabral
and his American wife Beverly, Whipray Caye Lodge is custom made for serious
salt-water fishermen and the independent traveler wanting to step away from
everyday stress into a pure and natural world - where the fast pace comes
to a splashing halt.
This is a very remote and unspoiled area - one of the few remaining in the
Western Hemisphere. With warm smiles and ice cold Belikins at the ready,
Julian and Bev make it very easy to unwind and adjust to the slow rhythms of island life.
A charming little island getaway, Whipray
(Whippari on some charts) Caye is surrounded by some of the finest permit waters
found anywhere as well as an abundance of snorkeling-worthy coral and sea life.
Kick back without your cell phone,
laptop or BlackBerry Indeed. Studies show that most Americans don't allow their
vacations to get between them and their email. According to research, an estimated 83 percent
of us check it at least twice a day while on vacation. And now that many of the most remote
locales from Nepal to Mongolia to Tanzania offer some sort of connectivity, it's hard to escape your inbox.
However, some hotels find that the blurring between work
and leisure is the antithesis of their mission to help you unplug. They're taking steps to help you tackle your bad habits by staying unwired by choice.
Off the coast of the Placencia, a fishing
village in southern Belize that's becoming a popular vacation destination,
the Whipray Caye Lodge attracts anglers who want to forget their lives back
home—at least for a few days. Though this private island hideaway
caters to a high-end clientele, the lodge is non-wired by design.
"Guests come in at the end of the day, have dinner and talk about—fish (what else?),"
says Beverly Cabral who co-owns the lodge with her husband Julian, a noted angler.
It doesn't take long for guests to get in the groove. "Everyone gets on 'caye time'
very quickly: They're up just before dawn… fish all day, eat dinner and go to bed usually well before 9 p.m."

SEASONS
The season at Whipray Caye is year around.
Fishing takes its cue from the weather. As long as
the weather is good, the fishing is good. Generally speaking, November
through February is very good fishing as long as there are blue skies
and warm breezes. Northers can blast through this area during our
winter time, but the good news is that they rarely last very long
and the fishing, when it has blown through, can be outstanding. As
the year progresses through March, April, May and early June, the
weather and the fishing is getting better and better. The summer means
great fishing through to early October, however one must be aware of hurricane
seasons and what they mean to an angler/traveler to this part of Earth.
While the fishing is very good, one has to be comfortable knowing that a trip
can be blown away by hurricanes. This is actually rare, but it happens.
Check out trip insurance and the lodge policy on cancellations due to inclement weather and hurricanes.
Late March through early June are the safest weather-months with very good
fishing conditions. Call us and talk this over with us if you have any questions about the
seasons and best months to go to Whipray.
