Turneffe Flats Lodge - Turneffe Atoll, Belize
Turneffe Flats Lodge lies thirty miles off the coast of Belize. Turneffe Flats is located on the Turneffe Atoll, the largest of only four coral reefs in the western hemisphere. The Turneffe Atoll is remote and strikingly beautiful with crystal
clear waters alive with a wide diversity of marine life.
This remote western Caribbean resort has a well- deserved reputation as one of the best angling destinations in Belize. This is a flats fishing lodge that has set new standards for the rest of the industry. Not only is it remote and beautiful with
an abundance of fish, but the lodge owners and the staff have taken a very service oriented approach with the emphasis on knowing their fishery like the back of their hand.
Permit & Tarpon Photos - Courtesy of Bill Marts Turneffe Flats caters to serious anglers and uses modern 16' Dolphin Superskiffs for transportation to the expansive shallow flats just inside the reef-an area at the northeast end of a necklace of gin-clear flats that stretch as far as the eye
can see. With the help of a guide, it's not unusual to spot several hundred fish in a day while wading the ankle-to-knee-deep water. Several of the guides have over 3 decades of experience. An average fishing day at Turneffe Flats is about eight\ hours; however, this is quite flexible. During tarpon season, many
anglers opt to start shortly after sunrise and take a rest during the day. If you are a hard core angler, you may wade the flats in front of the lodge early in the morning, go out with your guide for the day and come back to the lodge flats and fish until sun- down.
The food is good and the three meals a day you will be served at the lodge feature Belizean cuisine and are often centered on fresh seafood. Meals are served family style in the main lodge and always include fresh fruits, freshly baked breads and
pastries. A well-stocked bar in the lodge provides a focal point for
sharing fish stories in the evening. The friendly, native, English-speaking staff makes the stay at Turneffe more than just another trip.
Please don't hesitate to call with any questions regarding this outstanding salt-water flyrodding destination.
