Tranquility Hill - Fresh Creek, Andros Island, Bahamas
Years ago, Raymond Mackey and Ivan Neymour broke ground and built their dream bonefishing lodge on a hillside overlooking the North Bight at Behring Point, on Andros Island. Their goal then, as it remains today was simple: Create a fishing camp close
to some of Andros' prime trophy bonefish flats while offering a professional guide and lodge staff, comfortable accommodations, good food and most important of all, a quality fishing experience. Not much has changed at Tranquility Hill since its inception and today it remains a great destination for the serious saltwater
angler.
Tranquility Hill, not by chance, is strategically located at the east entrance of the North Bight of Andros Island, with equally easy access to the Middle and South Bights. This location is key to the lodges fishing program; within a short 10 minute skiff
ride from the dock, guides will have you fishing over foraging bonefish. Run times to the fishing grounds are anywhere from 10 minutes, to 1 hour. Anglers should expect to see good fishable numbers of bones in the 3 to 6 pound range each day, with a few fish pushing or exceeding the 10 pound mark. Daily fishing is a combination
of wade and boat fishing. The guides at Tranquility put a full day in and know their local waters like the backs of their hands. A typical day of fishing will see you leaving the dock at 8:00 a.m. and returning at around 5:00 p.m. After returning to the lodge, anglers are free to fish the local flats by the lodge until dark,
if desired. These flats can be very productive for bonefish and even the occasional permit.
Generally speaking, the fishing season at Tranquility starts in October, when the flats cool down from the blistering summer heat, and will go strong to mid-June. Winter months (December, January, and February) are susceptible to cold fronts, but can offer
good fishing, especially in and around the creeks.
Your guides at Tranquility Hill GUIDE STAFF: I cannot say enough about the guide staff at Tranquility Hill. Raymond and Ivan have over 45 years guiding experience combined, and have assembled as strong a guide team as we have ever had a chance to fish with. The guides at Tranquility
are more than just boat jockeys. They are a collection of dedicated saltwater fishing professionals with excellent communication skills and the ability to teach as well as being pleasurable companions to spend the day with.
"One of my favorite saltwater memories was with Raymond Mackey on a particularly difficult and frustrating morning. Dark clouds were following us around like a bad smell, and every time we would spot a fish or two, we would lose the sun. We worked
hard for the fish we brought to hand that morning, nothing giant, but decent nonetheless. Lightning was flashing on the distant horizon and the weather seemed to be deteriorating by the minute. Things weren't going like we wanted, and our confidence was slowly waning. Raymond, however never faltered for a second. His
charming and patient personality kept us focused and at ease. Just as Raymond poled us into his favorite cove the sky opened up, pounding our heads with rain the size of peas. "No worries mon, this rain is going to stop and dem bones are gonna sneak out of their hiding places and start to feed. "Within minutes, the
rain had let up and a fish, a double digit fish, appeared on the edge of the mangroves, sneaking out for a bite to eat after the deluge - just like Raymond had predicted. Raymond positioned the boat just right, I made the cast, just right, and the big bonefish came and ate my tan and white clouser... just right! I saw it
all so well, I managed to rip my tan and white clouser right out of its mouth. I know, I know... rookie move, but what a rush! I had hooked and lost an estimated 13-pound fish in less than a second. Raymond didn't say a word... he simply got the boat moving down the edge of the mangroves and we started searching for
another." - Bill Marts

Lodging: The lodge can accommodate up to 24 anglers at any time during the peak of the season. Each room is complete with a private bath, air conditioning, two double beds, a coffee maker and plenty of room to unpack and get organized. Chef Martha prepares
the meals, a terrific combination of seafood and local Bahamian soul food. A separate building serves as the lodge's bar and stores the coldest Kalik beers in the Bahamas. Tranquility is nothing fancy but is clean, comfortable, and logically laid-out, a perfect retreat after a long day on the water.
