Tiamo Lodge
Tiamo… the quintessential unspoiled island hideaway
you’ve been hoping to find but never knew existed this close
to home.
An idyllic tropical island paradise,
unchanged in fifty years and home to a colorful kaleidoscope of
exotic sea creatures and rare wildlife, South Andros lies in the
white sand-fringed archipelago of the Bahamian Out Islands, north-east
of Cuba and a little way south-east of Miami. The pristine green
island is dotted with quaint townships and water flats set in a
virgin wilderness. You can find it on Google Earth at 24.11.06 N
and 77.37.25 W. Here you’ll find the perfect paradise for
fishermen and honeymooners. The intimate, award-winning, eco-resort
of Tiamo makes the ideal base from which to explore the wild beauty
and pristine waters of the South Bight.
The Bahamian Out Islands lie in the Atlantic Ocean as it joins
the Caribbean and South Andros enjoys a balmy tropical climate ideal
for water-centered fun and total relaxation.
Although relatively tiny, Tiamo has
long been recognized as one of the best eco-resorts in the region,
and in its first incarnation earned rave reviews and a great number
of plaudits from both the travel and eco-press. The recent upgrade
has propelled Tiamo into a higher luxury bracket while maintaining
our “barefoot” reputation for eco-soundness.
World class fishing in luxury.
For many years now, expert traveling fishermen
have considered the Bahamas to be the birthplace of modern fly-fishing
for bonefish. The greatest early pioneers of the sport all
wet their lines here. A. J. McClane, Lee Wulff, W. L.Thompson, Joe
Brooks and others were regular visitors, having been charmed by
the friendly and welcoming character of the Bahamian people; the
transition from fishing in the Florida Keys to the crystal waters
of the Bahamas was easy. Today that tradition is continued by some
of the best known names in sport-fishing. Of all the 700 or so Bahamian
islands, none is better placed than Andros to provide visiting anglers
with spectacular and consistent sport. The deeper ocean flats are
on the East side of the island, while directly adjacent to the main
central bights of the island are some exquisite chains of hard bottomed
flats. Out to the West coast of Andros are the fabled white sand
flats, so prized for their consistent supply of huge trophy fish.
Of all the Bahamian islands and indeed throughout the world, Andros
rightly holds the title of Bonefish Capital of the World.
Tiamo is an award-winning destination which enjoys
unrivalled access to a huge wealth of completely natural, lightly
fished flats and the finest bone-fishing to be found in the Bahamas.
This private exclusive resort is set in
tropical landscaped grounds in the South Bight of the island,
completely sheltered from prevailing winds. The friendly and experienced
professional guides at Tiamo all know the flats of Andros like the
back of their hand and make the perfect companions on the water.
The guides accompany visiting fishermen to the best flats in the
resort’s own fleet of custom-built bone-fishing skiffs.
As well as the fantastic bone-fishing available
in South Andros there are also trophy-sized Permit, Tarpon,
Snapper and Barracuda in the rich shallow waters of the island.
When weather allows, “Blue Water” trips can also be
arranged. “The Tongue of the Ocean” on Andros’
East coast is a vastly under-fished resource producing Marlin,
Sailfish, Wahoo, Tuna, and Dorado in season,
as well as a host of reef and pelagic species. Tiamo is a
true fisherman’s paradise on a tropical island, offering the
kind of luxury and attention to detail that non-fishing partners
will adore. Extensively upgraded in 2009, the private island resort
will feature 10 individual airconditioned luxury cottages on the
beach, a gym and spa. The open-air Great Room and its infinity pool
overlook the ocean and offers world-class cuisine that can be enjoyed
under the stars. Water-based activities for more energetic guests
abound and include snorkeling, sailing and diving. If that sounds
too much like hard work, you can simply settle into a lounger at
the water’s edge, open your book and relax.
When one scans the world for the best remaining untapped
sport-fishing, it is easy to forget that some of the best untouched
fishing is not so far from home. |
