Pelican Bay Bonefishing - Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, Bahamas
This Bahamian resort offers the best of all worlds for the serious angler, and their often not-so-serious traveling companions. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find another bonefishing operation anywhere that has such wonderfully unique and diverse
options. The flexibility of the facility sets it apart from other operations, and is a key ingredient to its success.
The draw at Pelican Bay is the availability of trophy bonefish, seemingly endless flats, and seasoned, professional guides. Angling guests are met each morning at the hotel and driven to one of several nearby launch sites. Using new, 16' Maverick
Mirage that sport 85 horsepower commercial block Yamaha outboard engines, the guides are often pointing out bonefish before your rod is rigged! Bonefish in this part of the Bahamas are big, and anglers can reasonably expect to get shots at fish ten pounds or better. Most fish will be in the respectable 4 to 8 pound range,
and there are huge, world-class permit that frequent these same flats. Tarpon are also available in limited numbers in late April to July. Anglers wanting to target them specifically will increase their chances of hooking into Tarpon.
Photos courtesy of Pelican Bay Bonefishing Pelican Bay is as pleasurable a non-angler destination as it is a hard-core fishing destination. The shops, boutiques and open-air markets in and around the village and Freeport will satisfy even the most ardent shopper. In addition to the shopping,
over 20 fine and pleasantly unique restaurants are conveniently within easy walking distance and offer a chance to sample a variety of local cuisine and dining experiences. Of course, relaxing around the pool and soaking up some of that wonderful Bahamian sun is always an option, as is touring some beautiful local gardens,
swimming with dolphins, or shooting a round of golf at either of the two nearby Lucayan Country Club courses. Anglers will appreciate a soothing soak in the spacious hot tub after a long day chasing flats critters.
Next door to the hotel is the world famous under water explorer’s society (UNEXSO) who not only provides great scuba diving but also, host the “Dolphin Experience” where guests can interact with Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin. Also available are all of the
normal Caribbean water sports, kayaking, snorkeling, parasailing, sailing etc. Eco tours and organized island tours can be easily arranged.
Pelican Bay Resort is conveniently situated in the Lucayan district iin Freeport, on Grand Bahama Island. Freeport can be reached from virtually any major city in the U.S. on a same
day basis, and has scheduled flights arriving all day long, and half the night. No annoying overnight mainland stays means you can arrive with plenty of time to settle in and enjoy the Village on your first night.
And, although only minutes from the International Airport and a myriad of restaurants and shops, Pelican Bay itself is thoughtfully removed from the big city atmosphere. This very comfortable and tastefully designed hotel features 48 modern rooms, each
with its own private veranda with ocean views and all the amenities you would expect in a new hotel. It's a wonderfully designed property, a perfect get-away for the fly fisher interested in chasing trophy bonefish, while enjoying the company of a non-fishing companion. Although there are many options within yards
of your door, all guests can be rest assured that they are never too far away from the more private area of our intimate resort.
A typical day begins with a lovely poolside breakfast, of either local or americanized flavor. The fresh ocean breezes are a comfortable and invigorating start to the day's adventures. Anglers are treated to deluxe on-board lunches, prepared to order
each day by the resorts on-site chefs. Non-anglers are free to explore countless other lunch options in the Village.
Pelican Bay is a wonderful holiday for both anglers and non-anglers, but the real attraction is the outstanding fishing, superb guides, and trophy opportunities on picture-perfect flats. The over 30 miles of remote flats on Grand Bahama Island harbor incredible
numbers of trophy bonefish. You'll fish with seasoned, well appointed guides who understand flats fishing and what it takes to make a veteran bonefisherman happy. It's a win, win trip for everyone.
With more accommodations than angling packages available it is an easy task to design a package for couples, single anglers, and non-anglers that is much more modestly priced than at traditional bonefish destinations. Luxury suites with two queen size
