Freeport was easy to reach then, and even easier to get to now. The angling pioneers chose Grand Bahama Island as their bonefish Mecca because the shallow shelf surrounding the island is perfect bonefishing habitat, tapering quickly to deep water and constantly recycling huge numbers of bonefish on picture-perfect flats.
