Rods:
8,9,10 weight for Permit and Bonefish, 9,10, or 11 for Tarpon.
Reels:
Any make with a good drag system and at least 175-200 yards of backing.
Lines:
All WF floating, one fast sink for Tarpon, a RIO Deep Sea 300 gr – 400 gr. Salt
water tapers are best with 9ft-12ft 15 or 17 lb. test tapered leaders, (fluorocarbon leaders are great)
no knots. Tarpon leaders should have 80-100 lb. shock tippet. Barracuda
require wire tippet.
Flies:
Permit:
- Bauer’s Flats Crab, in colors of tans and olives
- Merkins
- Bauer’s Mantis Shrimp, in colors of light olive and orange.
Bones and Jacks:
- Pink puff, chartreuse puff, tan puff or charlies.
Tarpon:
- Lefty’s deceivers
- Black Death
- Blue and white clouser
- Stu Apte type Tarpon flies
- Bauer’s tarpon
- All in size 3/0.
* Do not forget sunscreens, rain gear, Polaroid's, flats booties
(hard sole), line cleaner and insect repellant with DEET for sand
flies on leeward side of cayes.
