Ascension Bay Bonefish Club - Yucatan Peninsula - Punta Allen, Mexico
Ascension Bay Bonefish Club caters exclusively to flyfishermen, and particularly to anglers interested in permit. Bonefishing is excellent in the shallow, clear flats of Ascension Bay, and the native guides pride themselves in their knowledge of the intricate
tides, habitat, tackle and sophisticated techniques appropriate for successful permit hunting with fly rods. Anglers committed to this demanding challenge are seldom disappointed, and more often than not, are rewarded with permit, the most difficult trophy component of a Caribbean Grand Slam!
"Bonefish Club" is really misnamed because ABBC focuses more on trophy permit fishing, and that's what makes this location so unique. Permit are the most challenging fish a flyrodder can pursue, and nowhere in the world are they as prolific
and catchable as in the unspoiled flats of Ascension Bay on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. If you're new to permit fishing and you want to catch your first one, or if you're a seasoned veteran, this is the place for you! The Yucatan "grand slam" (permit, tarpon and bonefish) is a real possibility here
because the waters abound with all three species as well as barracuda, jack crevalle and snook.
ABBC is located in the lobster fishing village of Punta Allen, south of Cancun, and at the northern tip of Ascension Bay. It's in the heart of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, a huge, 1.4 million acre Mexican National Park (Sian Ka'an means
"birthplace of the sky" in Mayan). You'll have many opportunities to glimpse jungle wildlife and the remains of ancient Mayan civilization on your drive south from Cancun.
Any fishing lodge is only as good as its guide staff. The ABBC guides have studied these waters for years and have learned well. Our fishing successes and repeat customers attest to the knowledge and professionalism of the ABBC guide staff. ABBC uses
two guides per boat. One senior guide handles the poling and the other stands with the angler to point out the fish. Both guides are constantly probing the flats for fish so that our anglers actually have two experienced pairs of eyes in addition to there own. We utilize 21? custom fiberglass boats that have plenty of
storage and a clean front area with a very stable casting platform. While not glitzy, your impression of them will be elevated as you experience the simple functionality and productive results these crafts allow us. Boats are like custom tied flies, some are designed to hook fisherman, some just to hook fish.
Traditional breakfasts, with some local flair, consist of cereal, eggs, bacon, ham, juices, toast and coffee. Box lunches are prepared for the fishing days and typically include sandwiches, fruits, desserts, ice water and other beverages. Varied meals
served family style (both American dishes and local Caribbean / Mexican favorites) are tasty, healthy and always ample. They include fresh meats, seafood, chicken, vegetables, fruits and delicious desserts including the famous flan and homemade pies. Bottled water is used for drinking and ice.
