This part of Andros Island is far off the beaten path and anglers interested in a remote bonefish adventure should take a serious look at Andros South Lodge.

Andros South (Google Earth at:24.00.22.08N and 77.31.38.80W) is located just north of Little Creek, where their boats are moored for quick and easy access to both Little and Deep Creek, the fabled Westside with its large ocean bones and all of the south-end cays, creeks and flats. Their location couldn’t be better. The southern tip of Andros Island, beyond Mars Bay, is a vast, uninhabited, trackless saltwater frontier, with little fishing pressure and few humans. These waters are home to giant schools of hungry, unsophisticated bones as well as trophy, double-digit singles – the trademark of Andros Island.

On a recent trip to Andros South, we waded flats that had rarely if ever been fished before, targeting small and medium size schools of bonefish that averaged 2 1⁄2 - 4 pounds. It was truly an unbelievable day as school after school was encountered – all day long. While there are lots of fish on the flats most of the time, they are not totally stupid. You still have to stalk, cast, present the fly and fight fish correctly to successfully land these strong bones. But, when you blow a cast and spook a fish (or the whole school) it is not the end of the world. There will be other shots at other fish. The guides grew up in this area and know their playground well. There is not a tide you cannot fish. One flat or another will be perfect at just about any time of the day.
