Sight Cast Los Roques
Grand Roque Archipeligo, Venezuela  •  South America

L o s   R o q u e s   i s   o n e   o f   t h e  greatest bonefisheries on earth! There are over 350 cays in this angling paradise, and the light-colored, firm-bottomed flats often seem to stretch to the horizon. Nearly every inch of it is wadable, and covered with bonefish that average 4 pounds. The number of bonefish can only be compared to Christmas Island in the South Pacific. The fishing is done here the way it should be, "on foot, with miles and miles of firm, pale, shallow flats, covered with tailing bones."

Los Roques is easy to reach, particularly from the East Coast, with good food, and savvy guides that understand the complicated tides, the habits of Los Roques bonefish and the intricacies of flyfishing.

The Fly Shop helped pioneer Los Roques and hosted the first group of anglers ever licensed to fish this magnificent archipelago in March, 1987. What we found is that the stories circulating about this bonefish paradise were true and this great new spot immediately re-defined the standards for bonefishing.

Years of experience at Los Roques by the native owners and well-trained guides has given us a complete understanding of the tides and weather patterns, and taught us that the most reliable angling is from early March through the month of November.

Dramatic improvements in accommodations, Venezuelan Government regulations and staff at Los Roques in 1996 have made an already fine experience even better. The equipment, accommodations, food, staff and guides are outstanding. It is an authentic Venezuelan experience...highlighted by a talented, friendly bi-lingual staff. Even more important to the serious angler, the bonefishing is magnificent!

When The Fly Shop was asked to help design the angling package, we built in every item: every drink, every transfer, every meal, all accommodations, from the time of arrival in the country, and eliminated the need to be constantly reaching into your wallet. Then we chose the name. (The Rock)

Most of the staff here at The Fly Shop have visited Los Roques, many of us more than once. We have that intimate familiarity and experience that can help you select the best times and provide you the most complete and up-to-date information for this wonderful destination. Of course, we'll recommend the flies and tackle you need and they're all available for you to order.

Los Roques is a rare place that every fly fisherman should experience. And there's nobody that knows it better than The Fly Shop, because we helped get it started and we're constantly trying to help make it better.
