Fishing day at The McLean
Ts'yl-os Park Lodge

Chilko Lake • British Columbia, Canada

Angling days at Tsylos Park Lodge center around the Chilko River with full guide support.

You will wade all the different pools and ledges for the first 9 km’s from the river outlet and your guide will keep you moving from shelf to shelf and offer assistance when needed.

The lodge also drift-fishes from their flat-bottom jet sleds. With one person fly fishing from the bow, and one from the stern your guide can direct you over all of the shelves that hold our big Rainbows. This can be very productive as you can cover a lot of water in a short period of time. Once at the end of your drift, the jet motor is used to move upstream for another drift.

Finally, Tsylos offers guided day floats down the Chilko River for about 22 km’s in McKenzie River Drift Boats. This is a terrific way to find secret eddies, pools and experience the beautiful lower end of Chilko River in peace and solitude. Float tubes are also used in some stretches of the river and allow anglers the flexibility to stop at all the shelves and really work those drop-offs for the big ones.

Most anglers who book a full week package will fish the Chilko Lake 1 or 2 days, depending on weather and their preferences. We encourage a lake day, as Chilko Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world and the fishing can be outstanding. Anglers are also encouraged to join a day ride on lodge horses to the high country. Most of our "riders" are quite good, and we cater to the intermediate, but there are 1 or 2 days when the trail ride is slow and beginner riders can get a bird’s eye view of the entire valley for miles...

Fresh brewed coffee will be on at the lodge by 7:00 a.m. and served by 8:00 a.m. After breakfast, you will head back to your cabins, put your waders on, grab your kit for the day and head off with your guide for the day.

Normally the evening before your fishing day, you will sit down with your guide and come up with a game plan. Your guide will fill you in on any special equipment you might need for the day and set a departure time. Of course, if the weather changes and does not allow you to execute on your pre-arranged plans, another fishery will be substituted.

Lunch is taken on the fly in the field and is prepared and packed for you each morning.

You can expect to be back to the lodge sometime between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. with plenty of time to take a shower, have a cocktail, enjoy some tasty appetizers before dinner is served at approximately 7:00 p.m. Complimentary wine is served with dinner After dinner guests can tie flies, play horseshoes, take a walk, , soak in the hot tub, enjoy the campfire or play cards.

NON-ANGLING ACTIVITIES

Ts'yl-os Park Lodge is a terrific destination for non-angling companions and families. There is an abundance of outdoor activities to partake in including horseback riding, horse-packing, hiking and trekking, canoeing, kayaking, and wildlife viewing and photography.
