Northern Lights Lodge is a wonderful,
family run fly fishing lodge in wilderness British Columbia, approximately
250 miles northeast of Vancouver on the Quesnel River.
The streams and rivers accessed
by Northern Lights Lodge are some of the most exciting wild
trout fisheries we have experienced in quite some time. We are very
excited about offering Northern Lights Lodge to our loyal trout
fishing fanatics.
The comfortable log lodge sits
near the banks of Quesnel River/Lake, outlet to Quesnel Lake,
the deepest fjord lake in the world. In fact, scientists have recorded
depths in Quesnel Lake as deep as 2,200 feet and still have not
reached the bottom. This 80-mile long lake (a real fish factory)
is the key to the region’s fabulous trout fishing, with pure
water, unlimited food, and superb winter habitat. Combine this incredibly
rich lake with a number of tributary rivers and strong runs of Sockeye
and Chinook salmon, and you have the makings for some BIG rainbows.
One look at the fish and you'll understand what we mean - these
trout are studs! The Quesnel Lake area, bordered by four major parks,
Cariboo Mountains Park, Cariboo River Park, Bowron Park and Wells
Gray Park is noted for spectacular scenery, wildlife and, of course,
world-class fishing for trophy rainbow trout.
Northern Lights Lodge offers
a unique opportunity to visit a number of blue ribbon fly fishing
rivers in the Quesnel Lake watershed. Rivers such as the
Mitchell, Horsefly, Quesnel, Cariboo and local smaller streams offer
some of the largest trout found in British Columbia. These waters
are home to wild, native trout often in the 12-20-inch range, with
trophies caught up to ten pounds. Trophy Dolly Varden also inhabit
several of these rivers and can reach amazing proportions. A wonderful
plus is the Quesnel River water a short walk from the lodge's backyard
- if you don't get enough fishing during your guided day, no worries,
a short stroll will put you on more water than you can cover!

The fisheries at Northern Lights
Lodge are accessed by boat, jet-sled or automobile and seldom require
more than an hour’s ride. The fisheries are so different
and entirely unique from one another that anglers are encouraged
to spend at least a week with the lodge to sample all they have
to offer. For still water fishing enthusiast, there are no less
than a dozen hidden and private lakes the lodge can access, all
full of trout. The lodge's overnight fly-out package to Mitchell
Lake is a memorable wilderness fishing experience. Only four anglers
at a time are allowed into Mitchell Lake, where they experience
comfortable wall-tent lodging, absolutely amazing views of mountains,
hanging glaciers, and wildlife.
At Northern Lights Lodge fly-fishing
is excellent throughout the season - dry flies from mid-June
through August, and wet fly, streamer and egg patterns throughout
the fall months, give you non-stop action for big bows and voracious
dollies. Drift fishing and wading are the best methods for fishing
these rivers. For a relaxing change of pace this package also includes
the option to visit an outstanding series of remote fly fishing
lakes where the dry fly fishing is superb. With such a wide variety
of opportunities you and your guide will pick the waters offering
the best fly-fishing opportunities during your stay.
The main Lodge at Northern
Lights was built on the shores of Quesnel Lake in 1942 by the Hale
family from Vancouver. Built of cedar logs from its Quesnel
Lake property, the lodge is a local landmark and the source of countless
fishing memories over its sixty years of hosting anglers. In the
late 90's Northern Lights Lodge underwent a three year restoration
project to better serve the needs and comforts of its guests.
Your hosts at Northern Lights
Lodge are Skeed & Sharon Borkowski, 50-plus year residents to
the area. Skeed and Sharon are wonderfully warm folks and
their seasoned staff will give you their full attention and are
dedicated to making your trip enjoyable and memorable.
