La Villa de Estancia Maria Behety and the Rio Grande
La Villa de Estancia Maria Behety, at the entrance to the 275,000 acre Estancia Maria Behety, was once regarded as among the most beautiful ranch mansions in all of South America. It was once filled with fly fishing legends Joe Brooks, Mel Krieger, Ernie Schweibert, Jorge Donovan and Bebe Enchorena. The laughter of their host, Charlie Menendez, filled the villa above the Rio Grande until it was gutted by fire in the late 1970's.

After painstaking restoration by local craftsmen and the addition of every modern convenience, the once magnificent home will soon open its doors to the first house guests in nearly thirty years. Starting in January of 2004, La Villa de Estancia Maria Behety will accommodate a maximum of six anglers each week of the short Tierra del Fuego summer, January - March. Guests at La Villa de Estancia Maria Behety can look forward to an old world atmosphere that will set a new standard on the Rio Grande. Anglers will rotate through the premier pools of the lower Rio Grande, all inside the massive border of the estancia, and all within a rifle shot of the lodge. Anglers will enjoy luxurious accommodations, excellent meals, the finest Argentine vintages and one of the best fly fishing experiences in the world.
