Duncan
and Sons Float Trips
Kanektok River, Southeast Alaska
The camp is based on the Kanektok
River, which flows directly into Kuskokwim Bay. Famous for its beautifully-marked
"Leopard" rainbows, the river also hosts superb runs of
all 5 species of Pacific salmon, as well as sea run Dolly Varden
and resident grayling.
The rivers are the perfect
size - small enough to wade effectively and do some exciting
sight fishing, but large enough to comfortably float down.
Located 30 miles upstream from
the river's mouth, Kanektok Camp is surrounded by a 2.2 million
acre federal wilderness area. Outfitter access to the wilderness
portion of the river is severely limited by law -- there are no
operations upriver, and only ten anglers a week are allowed here.
Duncan's camp is one of only
two permitted to use jet boats on the entire river. The camp
is in the center of the trout fishery and has immediate access to
the desirable "braids" section, where you can lose yourself
in the small, meandering backchannels and tributaries. For those
wanting to tangle with heavier game, simply walk over to the main
channel, where the bulk of the salmon species are making their way
upstream. Unlike many of the other regions of Alaska, the rainbows
in the Kanektok are year round residents of the river and put on
weight at a tremendous rate as the season progresses..
The river camp theme of the
operation allows for increased fishing time and mobility. Guides
use jet-equipped river sleds (two anglers per guide), equipped to
row, where this is an advantage. Since the wilderness status of
the area does not allow permanent structures, the camp uses top-quality
Weatherport tents, erected on wooden platforms. Hot water, heated
tents and great food round out this remote top-notch trout operation.
It is the real Alaska, heavily wooded and loaded with wildlife,
and offers a great combination of fly-fishing and service at a great
value.
Included in the package is
transportation to and from camp from Quinhagak, meals (including
beer and wine with dinners), lodging, and guiding services on the
river. Not included is roundtrip transportation from Anchorage to
Quinhagak, fishing license, and any favorite alcoholic beverages.
This is truly a one-of-a kind
experience. You will view gorgeous, pristine Alaskan scenery
just the way Mother Nature made it. The fish are BIG, and plentiful.
The camp prepares hearty meals and comfortable tents--all in a wilderness
setting.
Lodging
