Seasons

There is always great fishing to be had at Baranof Lodge.

They are located right on a protected bay that serves as a freeway for tens of thousands of migrating salmon annually, beginning with kings in May and June, and progressing to chums, pinks and silvers later in the year. In addition to the highly effective trolling with conventional gear, during much of the year intrepid fly fishermen can hook up consistently casting flashy streamers to the edges of kelp beds, or off the mouths of tributary streams. As well, these same streams load up with chum and pink salmon in mid-summer, mingling with the hordes of sea-run dolly varden that spend most of the year there. There is also world-class halibut action available throughout the season, some of which is within sight of the dock! Many fish in excess of 100 pounds are landed annually, along with untold numbers in the 20-60 pound range. For those wanting to bring home some of the finest eating fish filets known to man, this is a great opportunity, as are the great variety and numbers of rockfish available (some of which can be caught on a fly).
