Float Trips: Getting There
On the day preceding the start of
your Baranof Float Trip, you will need to make arrangements to arrive
at the Alaskan Bush town of Dillingham.
There are several flights a
day into Dillingham from Anchorage- any one of them will work, as
you'll need to overnight in town anyway. Upon booking, Baranof
will make reservations at Beaver Creek B & B in Dillingham,
where you will overnight. The cost of this lodging is not included
in the package- you may pay the B & B directly upon arrival
with credit card, check or cash. Beaver Creek B & B will know
you are coming - upon arrival in Dillingham give them a call from
the airport (there are courtesy phones available for you to use)
at 907-842-7335 or (866) 252 7335, and someone will be there within
minutes to pick you up. Also, check in with Fresh Water Adventure
upon arrival (907-842-5366), just to let them know you're in town-
this is the air charter that will be flying you out to the river
the next morning. They are located next to the Alaska Airlines hangar.
On the morning of your arrival
to the river, Beaver Creek B & B will drive you to where
your charter flight is scheduled to depart at approximately 9:30
a.m. In the unlikely event of marginal weather, the flight will
be delayed until it is safe to fly. Upon arrival at the upper reaches
of the Kanektok, you'll be loaded into top quality rafts with custom
built floorboards and rowing frames, and begin fishing immediately.
On your day of departure, you'll
reach a native village (Quinhagak) at the terminal end of the float,
where you'll catch a charter bush plane (included in the package
price) back to the larger village of Bethel. You'll need to have
arranged a commercial flight from Bethel to Anchorage in advance,
departing Bethel no earlier than 4:00pm. You may choose to overnight
in Anchorage, or connect to a "redeye" flight back home.
