| Few if any islands in the world conjure images of raw, rugged wilderness like Kodiak Island. This is home to the mighty Kodiak Brown Bear,
and his rivers swell with pacific salmon, trout, and wild steelhead from June through October. Here, deep within the confines of the Kodiak
National Wildlife Refuge, on the meandering Ayakulik River, 10 miles from where the river dumps into the Pacific Ocean, sits Dave Jones'
remote wilderness out camp. The camp is no Holiday Inn on the river, but comfortable, and offers the angler with adventure in their soul
an opportunity to fish wilderness waters. No long boat rides, no fly-out, not much of anything out here... except plenty of fishable water
and catchable fish right outside your tent.
Dave can access over 30 miles of this 50-mile river, using a specially designed river catamaran and by walking the banks. The river is a fly fishers dream, a combination of upper river meandering waters with cut-banks together with classic slick-water runs with well defined tail-outs, and riffles. These are gin clear waters, where anglers often sight fish to holding schools. The Ayakulik River is a low gradient river, easily waded and nature designed for fly fishers. No Teeny T-400 lines, and wading out to your neck here, just manageable, easily fished water, with little or no outside intrusion from other operators. Species of Fish: Chinook Salmon, Coho Salmon, Dolly Varden, Sockeye Salmon, Steelhead. Lodging: Dave's camp consists of several "Weatherport tents", sturdy expedition-proven buildings, for sleeping and dining and lounging facilities. With carpeted wood floors, padded sleeping cots, propane lights and heaters with a hot water shower, and covered outhouse, the camp is as close to a hotel as you can get and still have fabric walls. The menu at Dave's camp is a combination fresh fish, meats, vegetables, baked goods and snacks, all prepared daily by the camp cook. The camp only accommodates six (6) anglers a week, and is for the sturdy angler in search of remote wilderness fishing. Space is very limited for this quickly disappearing wilderness experience; advance reservations are a must. Travel Arrangements: You will take a charter flight from Kodiak to the camp. Length of Stay: 7 nights/6 days (Saturday to Saturday). Season: June/July and September/October. Occupancy: Ayakulik River Out Camp is limited to only 6 anglers.
