| Alaska Fly-Out Lodges
Fly-out lodges target small rivers and spot jet boats on fisheries less than an hour away. Alaska Fish and
Wildlife authorities limit the number of boats allowed in parklands to minimize impact, and local native corporations license access to their
tribal properties. The result is there isn't too much pressure, even at the best spots.
Depending on the size of the group and their destination, pilots may stay with their fishermen or leave a few of them in the hands of expert
guides, returning to pick them up at the end of their day. The decision-making process is a little different at each lodge, but the results are
the same. Anglers split up in parties of two, three, or four, depending on the type (and size) of the aircraft, where they're heading, and
how many guides will be accompanying them.
When anglers leave these great lodges early each morning for some of the best fishing in the world, the level of excitement and anticipation is
often enough to start the plane. |
